Left Wing

It's ELECTION DAY!

This is my left "wing" or as I usually refer to it, my hand. I wanted to represent both parties/candidates  equally, so I went left and right. All of my nails have a base of Sally Hansen White On. The red is Orly Haute Red, blue is Ulta Marine, and black is Sally Hansen Black, and of course, Seche Vite on top.

This is my right "wing" or as I usually refer to it, my hand. I wanted to represent both parties/candidates  equally, so I went left and right. All of my nails have a base of Sally Hansen White On. The red is Orly Haute Red, blue is Ulta Marine, and black is Sally Hansen Black, and of course, Seche Vite on top.

CopyCat: Galaxy Drip

A friend of mine found similar nails to these on Pinterest and loved them, so I recreated the look for her.   I used a base of Savvy Deja Blue, and I sponged on a mixture of Zoya Miley, Spa Ritual Delight and Sally Hansen White On, and the drips were also done in White On. As usual I used Seche Vite top coat.

Halloweeny

Posting these a bit late, I haven't  had time to post in a while, sorry! Well now let's get down to it. The orange color I used on my thumb and ring finger is Essie Braziliant, both have Sally Hansen Black, and the ringfinger also has a metallic gold/black by H&M just called Black (it came in a pack of mini polishes). My pointer finger has a base of Essie Scarlet O'Hara with Nina Black. My middle finger has this strange halloween polish a friend bought for me a few years back. It came in a little pumpkin shaped bottle and it's a black base with orange sparkles (it's unnamed). I used Sally Hansen Wet Cement to write "BOO". Lastly, my pinky is a base of Sally Hansen White On with Sally Hansen Black. All topped with Seche Vite. BOO!

Bruins Anyone?

My new friend Courtney likes the Bruins despite being from Pennsylvania and wanted Bruins nails. I used a base of Orly French Pink on all but the accent finger where I used Sally Hansen White On. The yellow is Nina Like Butta, and the black is Nina Black Velvet. Topped it off with Seche Vite.

Happy Fourth!

My appologies for the blurry photo. I'm obsessed with these. My thumb a was just China Glaze White on White with Spoiled First Class Only striped across it. My pointer finger was Milani Jewels FX in Silver. My middle finger is a firework with a base of Orly Haute Red with China Glase White on White and Spoiled First Class Only drawn on; in the center of the firework I dabbed some Sinful Colors Out of This World (a light silver) to give it some pop. The ring finger had a base of Spoiled First Class Only. The silver is Sally Hansen Platinum Chrome with Orly Haute Red layered over it. The pinkie has a base of China Glaze White on White with stripes of Orly Haute Red across the entire nail, I added the blue last, again in Spoiled First Class Only. Happy Fourth!

Spray Paint? (Easy)

I love this look, and it was super easy. The green is Delight by Spa Ritual and the purple is Dream on by Sinful Colors. I just painted a base of Delight on four nails then took a makeup sponge and lightly dabbed on the Dream On to create a sort of spray paint effect. It looks cool at that point, but the top coat really makes it. This design looks awesome in any color combination. I tried a red and orange and it gave a really nice fiery look.

Mad about Plaid

(No seriously. Unhappy with this Design)

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I got this perfect plaid idea from The Beauty Department. They only did the plaid design on one nail, now I know why. This technique took entirely too long for mediocreresults. I used a shimmery pink base and let that dry. All of the stripes you see are actually skinny strips of tape with a coat of polish. I cut the strips and applied them to the nail, then trimmed them to fit. Even with three coats of Seche Vite, the tape was still peeling. I'd recomend using a striper brush and steady hand next time you are looking for a plaid pattern.

Role Model?

This past week on The Glee Project, Lily Mae Harrington (left) was up for a last chance performance (aka she was in the bottom three). The reason she was in this position had nothing to do with her talent or ability, but rested solely on her bad attitude, like really rude. While getting ready for her performance she started running her mouth, saying, "I've never watched a show and seen a big girl be the lead, be the ingenue, be the sexy character. I think I'd be a great role model for anyone who is self conscious about their looks." This just bothered me. Wanting to be a good role model for young girls should not start with back-sassing, and being "bigger" does not give her any more of a right to be a role model than anyone else. I can name so many celebrities that are "bigger" by our society's standards of beauty that are totally sexy, confident women; however, I do see her point. Most shows on scripted television have itty bitty girls leading the show, which is sad. Although one show did immediately come to mind when I heard her say this: Drop Dead Diva. It was obvious when the commercials originally aired in  2009 that the creators originally intended for the audience to feel bad for the main character for being stuck in an 'unfavorable' body, too bad they casted an incredibly gorgeous actress to play the main character. But that's what I love about the show, an aspiring model realizes brains matter more than beauty, and then they sort of rerouted the show and had her realize that she's still drop dead gorgeous. It's fantastic. More than that, Brooke Elliot (right) is a great role model for girls in so many aspects: her private life is private, her character is kickass, and she's gorgeous and loves herself no matter what the script originally called for. I could gush about Brooke Elliot for days as I totally have a girl crush on her, but the point of this post was Lily from The Glee Project. I should hope that girls look up to celebrities for their personalities as well as their looks, and so far on this show, Lily hasn't exactly shown the nicest personality of the buch. To top it off, there is a blind guy, a girl in a wheelchair, and a transgendered dude.

Dear Lily,
having curves does not make you more inspirational than everyone else on the show.
Thanks,
Darcy

*I know this isn't exactly related to anything, I just had to voice this.

Prom!

I took this one the trolley on the way to prom because I did my date's nails on the way to prom. Her dress was a blue ombre that faded to black at the bottom so my nails matched her dress, with a base of Spoiled Navy and Nina Ultra Pro Black sponged on with a tissue. Her nails were equally simple. I used a base of Revlon Nude and then used Milani FX Silver and Milani FX Gold to create an extra sparkly look, like my dress. (This picture was taken over our dresses, so you can see how they match.) Both looks had a coat of Seche Vite.

In a Galaxy Far, Far Away...

My take on the galaxy nail trend! I began with a base of Savvy Deja Blue. I used a tissue to sponge on colors to create each nebula. I used Nina Ultra Pro Like Butta, Ruby Kisses Neon Orange, Ruby Kisses Neon Green, and Sally Hansen Blue Me Away. I couldn't find my dotter tool and my nails were way too wet to go scouring my house for a toothpick so I thought a brush would be fine for dotting on the stars. I was wrong. I found the dots to be entirely too large (I used China Glaze White on White by the way). I topped it with Warpaint Beauty Glow Turq, which glows in the dark and is sparkly and super awesome. I finished off my design with Seche Vite.

Flower Power

These are my cousin's nails. She wanted something like my "Spring Has Sprung" nails. I decided to give her a more colorful version and started with a base of Sally Hansen Blew Me Away. I made the flowers with white acrylic paint and Ulta Capri Coral. Top coat of Seche Vite!

Painterly

I'm not sure what to call this technique. I started with a base of Nina Ultra Pro Black then painted layers of color over top: Nina Ultra Pro Like Butta, Ulta Capri Coral, Ruby Kisses Neon Green, and Sally Purple. I finished with another coat of Nina Ultra Pro Black. I let this all dry then I took a paintbrush dipped in nail polish remover and brushed toward the tip of my nail repeatedly. After allowing the polish to corrode to my liking, I topped it off with Seche Vite.

Glitz and Glamour

Simple design. I used a base of Nina Ultra Pro Black and added Milani Jewel FX in Gold around the cuticle with a toothpick. Topped it with Seche Vite as always.

All That Glitters

Tribal/aztec print today. I decided to make a more lux version of the tribal prints I've tried before. I started with a base of Essie Little Brown Dress. The more glittery gold is Mira Hi-Shine (which has been discontinued, sorry), the gold is OPI Curry Up Don't Be Late, and the green is Spa Ritual Delight. I topped it off with Seche Vite.

Eye Candy

I absoluely love eyeballs. I once made a self portrait entirely out of eyeballs. I could draw eyes all day, they fascinate me. For this look, I started out with a base of Seche Retain. My thumb is based off of a really cool sketch I did in ink pen a couple weeks ago when I was sick. It's the side view of an eyeball being ripped away. To crate this I simply painted my nail with a base of Sally Hansen Cement and used Sally Hansen Black for the drawing. My index, middle, and little fingers all have a base of Orly Le Chateau, which is a very dark green that is almost black. It is absolutely gorgeous in the sunlight. Anyway, my pointer finger, with the cat eye, was created by making a circle with Spa Ritual Delight and then filling in the circle with Art Deco Bright Green. I used a very small amount of Nina Like Butta to emphasize the catlike appearance. I then used Sally Hansen Black to create the pupil. My middle finger is pretty straight forward using China Glaze White on White, Orly Red Haute, and Nina Black. My ring finger has a base of China Glaze White on White with a dot of Sally Hansen Marine Scene and Nina Black. Veins done in Orly Red Haute. Lastly, my little finger has the same colors as my middle finger. AndI finished with two coats of Seche Vite

Spring Has Sprung

So every high school girl at this time is thinking about prom, it's completely unavoidable, mainly because people such as myself will not shut up about it. There is a gorgeous dress on modcloth (that is currently out of stock) that my friend absolutely needs for prom, and that dress is what today's nail design is based upon. I started with a base of Seche Retain followed by a coat of Seche Clear. I then did a base coat of China Glaze White on White followed by two coats of Chanel Flamme Rose to give my nails a slightly off-white color. For the flowers I used a thin striper brush to paint on acrylic paint in white and ultramarine blue. I did this because the colors blended in a more controllable fashion rather than using to polishes of different consistencies and pigment levels. I finished with a coat of Seche Vite.

Check the dress that inspired me

Sorry Charlie

Our spring show is You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, so I decided to do a few of the costumes on my nails! On my thumb I have Charlie Brown. To do this, I used a base of Seche Clear, then put a little circle reinforcement sticker for ring binders on the bottom of my nail to make sure the polish didn't go there, then I painted the whole nail with Nina Like Butta. After letting that dry I drew the squiggles on with Sally Hansen Black. On my pointer finger I have little Sally Brown. I used the reinforcements again to make the negative moon, then painted the nail  with Spa Ritual Swept Away and made dots with China Glaze White on White. For Lucy van Pelt, I couldn't find my royal blue polish, so I actually used Ultramarine Blue acrylic paint, again using the reinforcements, and the color is China Glaze White on White. My ring finger is Charles Schulz' signature confined in a black box sort of like a comic strip cell. I used China Glaze White on White and Sally Hansen Black. I freehanded the negative space on Peppermint Patty, my little finger, using Art Deco Bright Green and did the detail in Sally Hansen Black. I used Seche Vite top coat on all my nails, as always.

Super Kawaii

Kawaii Take 2! I absolutely love these. I was showing them off all day. I started with a base of Spa Ritual Delight, with the exception of my ring finger which I used Spa Ritual Swept Away. I created the purple ombre effect with Revlon Gumdrop. Each design was done with Sally Hansen Black.

4 Square (How To)

This is a fairly simple design I did using regular old scotch tape.
First I painted my nails with Orly Haute Red and let them dry. I then put tape horizontally across my nail at approximately the midpoint with the tape covering the side of my nail facing my hand. I painted the full nail with Nina Black. When I removed the tape I had a half and half effect. I freehanded the silver, Sally Hansen Platinum Chrome, which in retrospect was not the best plan and I advise you stick with the tape method. After letting that all dry, I put tape on the outer half of my nail and again freehanded the center line with China Glaze White on White.

I've Got Time On My Hands

I lied...I actually have hardly any time on my hands right now. I've been so sick lately. I'm sorry I haven't been posting. I meant for this blog to be daily, that starts today. Promise.

Anyway....COLORS!
For the digital clock on my thumb I used Nina Black as a base with Orly Haute Red for the numbers. On my index finger, it's sort of hard to tell, but it's a dripping clock a la Dali. For a base I used Revlon Iced spice. Then to make the clock I used Spa Ritual in Delight with a gold detail polish from Charlotte Russe, and in the background is Essie Little Brown Dress. My middle finger is a pretty straight forward analog clock with a base of China Glaze White on White and Sally Hansen black. My ring finger has a coo coo clock. Base of Spa Ritual Delight with house in Finger Paints Sketchy Character and Essie Little Brown Dress and roof in Sally Emerald. Lastly, my little finger is a grandfather clock with a base of Avon Glisten, clock in Essie Little Brown Dress, clock face in China Glaze White on White and pendulum in OPI Curry Up Don't Be Late.

Come On Barbie Let's Go Party

Today I decided to go for Barbie themed nails. I have the oldstyle barbie cameo on my thumb, for which I used Nina Black and China Glaze White on White. I used China Glaze White on White for the base of my index finger and Revlon Pinkish to write the Barbie logo. On my ring finger I used a base of Spa Ritual Swept Away and again used the China Glaze White on White. My ring finger took the longest. I used a base of Sally Hansen Sheer Lilac Gloss and topped that with two coats of Ulta Pink Princess. While these polishes were still wet, I applied small pink gems (available at any craft store). My little finger has a base of Revlon Pinkish with details in China Glaze White on White. Each finger was topped with Seche Vite.

YingYang Twins

I've been really into kawaii right now. The pastels are almost creepy and eerie when placed next to the angry spirit of a lot of kawaii bloggers. I've been seeing a lot of ying yangs photoshopped on top of pastel pictures, so I decided to combine the two on my nails. The juxtaposition is lost a bit on my nails. I think I'll try a more extreme design next time I try kawaii. First I painted a black base, with Nina Ultra Pro in Black. In order of thumb to little finger, I used Orly Sky Blue, Revlon Gum Drop, Spa Ritual Swept Away, Spa Ritual Delight, and China Glaze White.

PS. Be weary of buying Revlon Gum Drop, I didn't notice the little red tag that reads: SCENTED WHEN DRY. Bad call. My hands smell like sugar...it's distracting.

PSS. Please enjoy me being a wannabe hipster with my ironic cross:

Lana del Rey Inspired Hair Tutorial

Hey guys! Here is another Lana del Rey inspired look, this time it's her hair. No hot rollers required! I first used a two inch barrel curling iron, then a 1" curling iron. The  hairspray I used is She's A Tease Volumizing Hairspray from Not Your Mother's.

Lana del Rey Inspired Makeup Tutorial

Hey guys, this is my first tutorial ever, I was inspired by the lovely Lana del Rey. She's a singer-songwriter with a great pinup girl kind of style. I made a hair tutorial based on her that I will be posting either later tonight or tomorrow.
